Over 40 years of professional expertise in art and real estate started for Mr. Cave with the study of the decorative arts at The University of Geneva. He received a B.A. in Fine Arts/Business Administration from Columbia University, and then was employed by Parish Hadley, the decorators commissioned to restore the White House during President John F. Kennedys administration. Edward Lee Cave was the first American to have a position with the British auction firm Sothebys when they purchased Parke Bernet in the 1960s. Ultimately, he was appointed Senior Vice President in charge of Operations in 1972. In 1976 he was the founding Chairman of Sothebys International Real Estate Company. He established national and international offices for the firm and the organization was an immediate success. However, Mr. Caves real estate activities actually began in 1968 when he purchased his first New York small apartment building; other investment properties and renovation projects followed. In 1982, Mr. Cave formed his own company, Edward Lee Cave, Inc. The firm, now a division of Brown Harris Stevens, is primarily active in the New York area in the luxury residential market: “We are the equivalent of a private banking institution committed to personal service and professional expertise.” The brokers all have professional experience and extensive contacts. Mr. Cave was responsible for the highest price paid for a private residence at the time when he sold a Beverly Hills estate. The following year he oversaw the sale of Hever Castle for Lord Astor at a price of over $20mm and negotiated the sale of the historic Chateau de Menars in Frances Loire Valley. Today, his total focus is on Manhattan. Its no wonder a Wall Street Journal cover article called him a “success” story in the sale of lifestyles to the privileged.
